Stretch to Tone Your Physique

As I recover (slowly) from an old injury that got irritated and as a result worsened, I thought this would be the perfect time to discuss the power of stretching. Today I am not going to discuss a pre-workout stretch or a post stretch. Instead I am going to go over the importance of stretching to tone your physique. Resistance bands (also referred to as elastic bands) have been forever marketed as a great workout tool. Granted they are a form of exercise by definition, but let's face it most people do not think of this as a great workout tool. Instead most people think of lifting weights when they think of working out. However, if you are either lifting something heavy or even slightly heavy repeatedly (using sets and reps) or just using resistance instead of weights you will still get a workout. Resistance bands do make a good low resistance workout if your goal is to either get toned or...

Training Gloves for Safety

With our new store came a better variety of products to offer you. This post will discuss one of the new product categories we have added: Gloves and Pads. We added Training Gloves for Safety so that we could offer you a whole new way of working out. Most sites never discuss this way of getting and staying fit, because it is not the mainstream fitness method. Here at At Home Gym we believe a mix of routines and equipment are the best ways to stay focused towards your fitness goals. If done properly we believe there is no bad fitness routine. There are two types of workouts with gloves; boxing and fighting. Boxing is a great way to improve your strength and endurance while increasing your heart rate to help burn calories. Boxing is also great for letting out your frustration. For safety you should always practice boxing with either gloves on or wraps. Since most of us do not go to...

Core Exercises

Core exercises: These core exercises are the staples of working out. They are crucial to a successful workout routine for any one who wants to get and stay fit. If you are ever in a pinch for time make these be your workout for the day or at least do one of them with some cardio and stretching. As with any workout it is best to stretch first, then do some cardio to get the heart rate up and get the blood flowing thru your entire body. Always stay hydrated with lots of cold/cool water on hand and then do a light warm-up set before going heavier on the weights (if you plan to go heavy with them). Bench Press This can be done on a flat bench or an incline/decline bench. A flat bench gives you a good overall workout of the pectoral muscles (upper chest). For more specific toning try doing this workout on an incline bench to further focus on...

Exercise

Exercise: Do you like having to exercise? Let's face it as we get older we need to exercise in order to be healthy, but how many of us actually like doing this? Most people do not, yet others do, why is this? Ever wondered why some people don't mind exercise and some even enjoy it? Today we will discuss why this may be and how you to can get into that same mindset they have and get to exercising. For those that do exercise they fall into three categories: 1) Gym Rats 2) Group exercise 3) Work out at home. All three categories are perfectly fine so do not feel that you must do one over the other, in fact you can even combine them if you wish to make exercise even more fun. Gym Rats are the ones that practically live in the gym. They wake up and head off to the gym first thing. They get in and get out...

Types of Exercise

Types of Exercise: This is a broad overview of exercise and is by no means complete. The purpose of this article is merely to get you thinking about being fit. Once you have made that conscious decision to take care of yourself it will open up the doors to the joy of experimentation in workouts to find what you do like to do. Cardio: I know, no one says they like cardio (at least not in the beginning anyways), but hear me out on this one. Cardio is crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Think of cardio as a natural coffee. Like coffee it gets us going. What I mean by that is it wakes us up by getting the blood flowing thru your body and allows us to start thinking; thinking about what we need to accomplish, want to accomplish and the ability to plan out the steps necessary to get it done. I recommend a glass of water then cardio and...

Intro to Fitness

Intro to Fitness: Each year as we enter into the winter season we begin to think about what we will do differently in the coming year. Most people say they will begin to exercise and diet and decide rather than doing it now while the thought is fresh in their minds, they push this off until "later". "Later" as they call it is usually January; perhaps just a few days past New Years day. More often than not it becomes February or worse May because they want to look good at the pool or beach. Others do far worse and never actually excercise (other than maybe once or twice and then stop). The reason they stop is because they are sore or they do not have the time to workout or because they are ashamed of what their body has become and do not want to feel embarrassed at the gym. Whatever the reason, the result is always the same...they stop working...
