Get Moving!

Today's post: "Get Moving!" is the best overall body workout there is! Before we get started let me just quickly get a few disclaimers out of the way: If you have not worked out in some time or just generally feel out of shape then this is not the workout for you due to an increased risk of injury. If you are past your prime (30's) this may or may not be a good idea for you. You are sick or hurt. Again, not a good idea to try this one. There. Now that we have that out of the way, let's Get Moving! Recently I recovered from some bad injuries and it was the chiropractor whom after many months finally got me back to about 95% of my full range of motion and zero pain. Due to circumstances beyond my control I then had to move (out of state) and in order to do so I had to do the rushed move all...

Featured Exercise: Farmers Walk

Now that I am regaining some of my strength I am becoming bored with just the basic workouts. You too will encounter this same problem soon if you have not already. This is why this post is introducing something new to our blog; the "featured exercise." Featured Exercise: Farmers Walk This is by far the most basic of exercises. It is so basic that it almost seems silly to have to list it. However since very few people today use the old school free weight exercises and instead use machines this one just had to be discussed. So here it is; the Farmers Walk. To perform this exercise simply grab anything that is not too heavy since you could possibly be working out non stop for quite sometime when doing this. By performing this exercise you will primarily be working your biceps. You will also work your triceps, forearms, legs and core to a lesser degree. Once you have whatever you choose to lift...

Resistance Band Workout Routines

As promised from the prior posting, today we will discuss Resistance Band Workout Routines. Why use Resistance Bands. This question maybe running thru your head right now, so allow me to explain. They are easy to do, the equipment is lightweight and portable and stretching is always a good idea (unless you are injured). So with that in mind let's get started! Resistance Band Workout Routines: When designing your own routines please pair up exercises by muscle group. For beginners try doing 2 sets of 8 to 10 reps. For moderate workouts try doing 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps. For advanced users try doing 2 to 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps. The exercises: Chest Press, Triceps Kickback, Lunge, Front Raise, Calf Raise, Bent Over Rows, Bicep Curls, and the Rear Fly. Chest Press  - Attach resistance band to a secure object such as a chin up bar or a power tower if you happen to have one. Hold handles in front of shoulders with knuckles facing out....

Stretch to Tone Your Physique

As I recover (slowly) from an old injury that got irritated and as a result worsened, I thought this would be the perfect time to discuss the power of stretching. Today I am not going to discuss a pre-workout stretch or a post stretch. Instead I am going to go over the importance of stretching to tone your physique. Resistance bands (also referred to as elastic bands) have been forever marketed as a great workout tool. Granted they are a form of exercise by definition, but let's face it most people do not think of this as a great workout tool. Instead most people think of lifting weights when they think of working out. However, if you are either lifting something heavy or even slightly heavy repeatedly (using sets and reps) or just using resistance instead of weights you will still get a workout. Resistance bands do make a good low resistance workout if your goal is to either get toned or...

Cardio Kickboxing

Today we will go over a fun workout that I introduced to my kids years ago. I refer to it as "Cardio Kickboxing." If this term has been used prior to me coining the phrase then I apologize for not giving credit due, because I was unaware of anyone other than me using it. This workout is so simple and so fun, yet it is to the best of my knowledge never mentioned. This workout is designed for some strength training (legs), lots of cardio and lots of fun! For this to work you will need a punching bag, a power tower (or tower power depending on whom you talk to), a pair of workout gloves, a trampoline or mini trampoline, loose fitting workout pants or shorts, some socks and something to listen to music with. Step 1: hang the punching bag to the top of the tower power Step 2: place the trampoline (mini trampoline fits best) in the middle of the power tower...

Training Gloves for Safety

With our new store came a better variety of products to offer you. This post will discuss one of the new product categories we have added: Gloves and Pads. We added Training Gloves for Safety so that we could offer you a whole new way of working out. Most sites never discuss this way of getting and staying fit, because it is not the mainstream fitness method. Here at At Home Gym we believe a mix of routines and equipment are the best ways to stay focused towards your fitness goals. If done properly we believe there is no bad fitness routine. There are two types of workouts with gloves; boxing and fighting. Boxing is a great way to improve your strength and endurance while increasing your heart rate to help burn calories. Boxing is also great for letting out your frustration. For safety you should always practice boxing with either gloves on or wraps. Since most of us do not go to...

New Year, New You

Happy New Year! It's New Years Resolution time if you have not already done so. Each year we all make up a list of things we want to accomplish (goals) and for the most part we all fail to achieve those goals. Why is that? Did you take it one step further like you should and set up steps to meet each goal, did you forget to follow the plan, did you make excuses as to why you could not follow the plan? Let's make 2018 different from the rest. We will do this together. Here is the plan: make goals (fitness or otherwise) and write down the steps needed to achieve those goals. Next put a time frame as to when you must meet those goals by. Then move onto the next one. To keep you from failing to follow thru post the goals and steps on a large dry erase board or cork board or an easel. The point here...

The Importance of Family

In this post we will discuss the importance of family: Studies have found that those who live alone and shy away from other people are really missing out on life. This is not to say that they cannot go on and live a long time and have some fun, but traditionally those who have larger circles of friends and a close knit family tend to live even healthier, happier lives than those who don't. Why is this you may ask? The reason is quite simple really - we are meant to not live alone and to want to be around others. Being with friends allows for you to express yourself and get out and do more. Also with friends you have someone you discuss things with and get opinions that you know are honest and worth listening to. Family can be the same way as friends when it comes to helping work thru problems and providing that support system that you sometimes...
